Visual Design
For this course, the Georgia Department of Health and Human Services and Columbus State University’s School of Continuing Education did not have a brand copy and style guide in place.
I took on the task of developing the course colors, brand style guide, and logo. Given the young target demographic and the primary access through mobile devices, I chose a bright color palette to maximize engagement and impact. This approach ensured the course was visually appealing and aligned with modern design trends, enhancing the overall learning experience.
Course Development
Vyond Animated Videos
To make the course engaging and relatable, we employed storytelling techniques. We crafted a narrative following two characters from discovering they are going to be parents to establishing a co-parenting relationship. This narrative approach allowed learners to contextualize the changes that parenthood brings within the course content.
Parenting IRL Videos
We incorporated filmed actors sharing their real-life experiences of becoming parents. These authentic stories, sourced from real parents, complemented the content in each module.
Authoring Tools & Gamification
For an interactive learning experience, I built the course using Articulate Rise for mobile optimization, embedding customized Storyline interactions to enhance engagement through gamification elements.
Results
The course is set to launch in August 2024, with a pilot session hosted by the University of Georgia to collect data on learner retention, engagement, and technical performance. Based on the feedback, we will fine-tune the course for its full launch in November 2024.
